Lots of our clients ask us how they can make better use of their social media platforms to raise awareness of their business.

Choose the right social media channel

It can often be tricky to know which social media platforms are going to work for you are your business. Facebook may be perfect for a hairdressers or fashion retail brand but might not work at all for other types of businesses. You need to establish who you are trying to speak to and are you likely to reach them on any given platform.

Create interesting, relevant content

Many businesses make the mistake of taking the time to create a Facebook, Instagram or Twitter page and then never uploading any content. Not only is this a complete waste of time, it looks really bad when the customer seeks out your page to find no updated information to tell them about your products or services. You don’t need to be churning out tons of content but as a rough guide try to post a couple of times a week with relevant, interesting content. Using images and video is even better.

Engage with your followers

If you’ve posted great content and then your followers post comments make sure you respond and answer any questions they may have. It’s just good practice and gives a reflection of your customer service level.

Don’t ignore bad feedback

Similarly, if people post negative feedback on your page, make sure you respond in a timely manner and try to resolve any issues promptly. Also, it’s always better to communicate privately and not engage in a slanging match on any of your pages. Offer unhappy customers an email or contact number for them to get in touch directly.

Take advantage of paid advertising

To further increase your presence, you can choose to take advantage of paid advertising. A lot of social media channels now make it more difficult for posts from business pages to appear organically in newsfeeds. Paid advertising is a way around this.
