Social media marketing, whether it’s Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn, dependent on your target audience is one of the most efficient platforms your company can adopt.

Utilising the right platform for your company can dramatically increase your digital presence and brand awareness. We often get many questions from clients asking us what is right and what is wrong when it comes to creating content for your social media pages.

So we have put together some of our top tips to ensure that you get the most out of your social media marketing.

1. Be consistent

This one is important if you’re going to start putting content out there on social media, please make sure you are posting regularly and stick to the same overall theme. This is important as these posts will have a big reflection on your brand’s identity. However, be careful not to bombard your audiences with loads of posts a day. One good rule to follow for social media is the 80/20 (Pareto Principle). This is where 80% of your content should be used to entertain and educate your audience, and 20% should be used to promote your business.

Each platform is used differently by its users, and the amount you post on each should differ. We would advise Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn to be around 1 post per day, and Twitter would 3-5 times a day.

2. Know your audience and engage with them

Before you can do any sort of social media marketing you need to understand your audience. Once you know who your audience is you can choose the most suitable tone and platform for that audience. LinkedIn is known to be the best platform to use to target business professionals, whilst Facebook is used to target consumers.

It’s important to engage with your followers, answer questions when they ask, respond to their DMs, this will help increase the trust in your brand and add social value!

We’ve created a table below to help you understand where audiences are and how long they spend on each platform.

Social Media Platform Largest Age Group Average Time Spent Per Day
Facebook 25-34 38 mins
Twitter 30-49 3.5 mins per session
Instagram 25-34 29 mins
LinkedIn 46-55 17 mins monthly
TikTok 18-24 45+ mins
Snapchat 13-34 26 mins
Pinterest 30-49 14 mins
YouTube 15-25 41 mins

3. Be creative in your content

The kind of content you are putting out there is so important. Be creative, you need to catch your audience’s eye. You can do this by using images, video and unique content. When creating content, you need to be careful that you don’t oversell to your audiences. Let your audiences get to know you and the team a little bit, interact with them rather than telling them constantly why they should buy your service or product.
